Was it a Moment?
December Newsletter
Dear friends,
Today sees the release of the first Ten Speed Racer single in 21 years. It’s called “Was it a Moment?," and all proceeds go the Stay Human Collective who provide education and support to children in Gaza.
It’s the lead single from an album of out-takes and rarities that will be released next year.
I’ve been doing quite a bit of production work lately. I had a great time making two new versions of Bren Berry’s “This City,” one a straight remix, the other, more of a reimagining, trying to get to the soul of the song. He’s called this version, “I Love This City,” and it’s just made it onto the RTE Playlist which is lovely!
Just posted to Youtube, a video I found of “Asylum,” from LUCIA, from Axis in 2023.
It’s been busy on Patreon with releases of the “Revox Tapes”, three full-length volumes of original live-to-tape recordings that were the foundation stones of the Jupiter’s Wife album. I also posted a 4-track cassette tape of some of my earliest surviving songs from around 1992, some of which wound up on the first Sound of Bells album, “Winter.” I posted the full, unreleased album here.
I’m getting geared up for the a lazarus soul show in the mighty Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in January. Such a thrill and an honour to play in this space. I’ve always loved Saint Patrick’s and even wrote a song about it, “The Heart of Saint Laurence O’Toole.” Crazy story which I told dear Sean Rocks back in 2020 which you can listen to here.
Speaking of Sean, who we sadly lost this year, I’ll leave you with this interview and performance I did with him on Arena just a week or so before he passed away. He was such a lovely man and whenever I released an album, he always had me on his show. He is so missed.
It’s been quite a year, what with the Au Revoir Tristesse exhibition and book with Steve Wickham’s incredible paintings, the release of the Au Revoir Tristesse album, the launch in the National Concert Hall and the live album of that night, not to mention the Choice Music Prize, Vicar Street, Marina Carr and on and on and not to forget picking up my Masters in the Conservatoire de Paris. Thanks so much for being with me. Wishing you a lovely Christmas,
Joe
